3 essential components of an SEO-friendly blog post
1. Strategy
It’s no use putting content out there for the sake of it. If you want to maximise the benefits to your business, you need to have a content strategy that drives what you’re creating. To increase your rankings, make sure you start with a clear understanding of who you want to find you in the search results. From here, you can identify the most appropriate keywords and phrases, devising a clear path forward for your online content.
2. An optimised title
Never underestimate the impact of a title that is properly optimised for search engines. Not only are they one of the biggest factors in helping Google figure out what your content is about – but they will also determine whether or not the end-user clicks through to your website from the search engine results.
For this reason, the titles need to be optimised for BOTH search engines and people. As a minimum, you should make sure each blog post title is an appropriate length and contains your focus keyword.
3. Blog post length
How much should you write? This is an important question – and one without a clear answer. But does that mean you should ignore it when creating your content strategy? Absolutely not.
As a minimum, you should ensure your blog posts are longer than 300 words in length.
Beyond that, you need to consider what your blog post is about – and how long your post needs to be to adequately cover the topic. As we know, Google prioritises quality content. This means, if your topic can be adequately discussed in 350 words, that’s how long your blog post should be. Don’t reduce the quality of your post by writing more words, just for the sake of it.
That said, there are clear benefits to sharing more in-depth pieces. This showcases your expertise and authority – providing Google with even more reason to take your website seriously. For this reason, we recommend publishing blog posts of varying lengths. Just make sure you do so strategically, giving careful consideration to each topic.
